Damascening - decorative overlys
A great decorative technique for all manner of metalsmiths, not just blade makers.
Service Description
Damascening is a decorative metalworking technique in which a soft metal, often gold or silver, is mechanically inlaid into a harder metal like iron or steel without heat or solder. This can be done by hammering the softer metal into a recessed area of the harder material. The technique used in this class will be to cross-hatch the surface of the harder metal, creating a rough surface with tooth that will hold a soft foil or wire. No skill level needed. Closed toe shoes, natural clothing, eye protection, required. Recommended: eye magnification as project is small in size, and work is delicate. If you want to know more search "koftgari" and/or "nunome zogan" to see variations on this process.
